Letter to my swami
Oct. 3rd, 2000 08:00 amTue 3 Oct
Dear Swamiji,
It seems to me that the most important aspect of pranayama (study of the science of breath; practicing breath awareness as a means to realization) is simply an objective understanding of how the Life Force is manifest in our physical environment. It helps us as humans to understand how to exist within, and to interact with, the physical world.
I continue to enjoy studying that subject - most frequently, in the context of philosophical discussions with friends and family - but I feel most compelled right now to contemplate fully that pure, unmanifested Consciousness that exists without form or function, at the very _core_ of the Life Force itself. NOT the breath, NOT the prana, NOT ANYthing that I could ever speak about in any language. Swamiji, how can I cultivate THAT kind of pure, unfettered Consciousness in the context of my earthbound, Human existence?
Thought: This is an example of why personal face-to-face contact is so essential when sharing a spiritual experience. I am severely limited by my medium of expression with you: the English language. Were we able to sit in peace with one another, we could simply reside together in mere Awareness. I would cherish the opportunity to do that with you.
May your heart be at Peace.
