This stimulating article was included in this morning's NDS News. It covers some possible meeting points between science and mysticism, and discusses various physics concepts in relation to spirituality. One part of the article that struck me was the following: Particle physics suggests that empty space is seething with virtual particles, which spring into existence for an instant before vanishing.
That sounds like a physical description of the present moment to me. Before this moment arrives, it's nothing -- it's a virtual particle which hasn't sprung into existence yet. Then it springs into existence for an instant (i.e. the NOW), and then it vanishes. Whatever isn't the present moment doesn't exist: it either hasn't existed yet, or it has already existed and died.
Here's another interesting quote pertaining to why the universe is the way it is: ...the universe must have the structure we observe, because otherwise we wouldn't be here to observe it. That statement is a bit of a non-sequitur, but it mirrors exactly what only makes the most sense of all in relation to why we're here and how we came to be: we are here, because we're here. We are, because we are.
I am I AM.
And so on.
