This is interesting. It would be nice if people took more stock in these stars instead of the politicians, and in turn asked themselves some harder questions about whether or not the US should go to war against Iraq.

Of course, it seems like it's more a question of when now, instead of if. Which would lead to my next question: how would the American public actually voice their dissent (if it existed) against this war? I mean, Dubya can basically just do what the hell he wants, can't he? He doesn't exactly need the support of the people, does he? Could the American people actually prevent its own military from waging war against Iraq? Does it even want to?

Governments are such a joke. We give them so much power, but they really shouldn't be that powerful. Shouldn't they just be like another arm of our social structure like any other, responsible for various aspects of our infrastructure, but not given such abject power to inflict harm outwardly? Maybe the problem is that government leaders are given too much power. Parliamentary reform movements up here in Canada are focused on this fact, geared towards giving the regular public more say over the day-to-day activities of our governments. Otherwise, the only chance we get to have a say in what's actually done each day is through an election every 4 or 5 years. It's not enough involvement for those who care, that's for sure.
