Went to see Jeff Healey's Jazz Wizards last night. Some people might remember his blues/rock records from the late 80s and early 90s, made with The Jeff Healey Band. He's a great, blind guitarist who plays his guitar face-up on his lap. Last night's show was fantastic -- he plays trumpet, guitar and vocals on the gig, and it felt like we were transported back in time to a jazz club from about 1926. His trumpet playing lacks a certain finesse (not a bad thing, though) and he doesn't have a lot of endurance (i.e. his embouchure was shot by the end of the night), but his feeling, phrasing and tone are deeply reflective of Louis Armstrong and other great trumpeters from that era. Very cool show.

Woke up this morning with extremely sore triceps resulting from Saturday's upper body workout, and also with a big thick head cold. I think I'll go and have a nap in a few minutes while Z is sleeping too. Lost a few more pounds throughout the week last week, but gained most of them back through some back food choices over the weekend. Another little lesson in my body's metabolism -- I can never afford to screw around with my eating very much, if at all. But that's okay, because my urges to eat bad food keep diminishing from one week to the next, and I've noticed that the choices I make when I make bad choices are not as bad as they used to be. So I'm making progress, which is the most important thing. And I'm definitely getting stronger. I love the feeling of my muscles growing and getting harder. I may very well post my before and after pics on here (behind a cut though, so I don't scare anyone who doesn't want to see them!) when I'm finished the challenge in 5 more weeks. I think the difference will be pretty noticeable. I hope so, anyway.
