That stuff about personal debt really rings true for me. The amount of debt that we and most of my friends and colleagues hold is crazy, and for us personally, I don't think we'll be out from under it for at least another 3-5 years or more. During that time, we're certainly not going to be contributing to the stock market in any way.
I wonder if there's a way that the whole system could begin to reform itself throughout this low period for the stock market. I've always thought it crazy that we assign so much of our socio-economic value to something as emotionally-susceptible as the stock market and personal investors; maybe there could be some sort of realignment of monetary value that's more along the lines of our ethical and moral values instead...
