God. I spontaneously starting crying this morning while listening to the radio. Anna-Maria Tremonti was interviewing a young woman in Baghdad who windows were blown in from the blast of a building that exploded 250 metres from her house after it was hit by 4 missiles. She and her family ran from her house to her grandmother's house some distance away, where they're now staying.

Her story was sad, but it wasn't even really her story that started the tears. It was when I started thinking about the next anti-war protest in Halifax which I've been thinking about attending, that I started to get emotional. Whenever I think of the groundswell of opposition that's rising against this invasion, I get deeply moved by it. I know that not all the protesters are there with truly peaceful intent, but just knowing that so many people are drawn to gather in support of their strong feelings against something is important to me. It's important when people don't just sit back passively and let government leaders do what they want. Our governments should be mechanisms that act through our collective will, and they are currently ineffective in that regard. When crazy, illogical men like George Bush and misguided men like Tony Blair unilaterally unleash an unprovoked hellstorm of bombs and missiles on a nation such as they are doing this week, it's important that those who feel that this is wrong, stand up tall in opposition to it.

Whether or not my emotions are in control this afternoon, I'm going to try and make it out to the protest. My city's listing is here on protest.net; if you want to look yours up, the main site is below:

Today should be a big day for protests around the world. I hope a lot of people come out.
